Biology A Level

 
Exam Board: EDEXCEL
The A-Level course focuses on understanding and application of Biological concepts. The course builds on prior knowledge from GCSE Science and Additional Science, although Additional Science is not essential. Throughout the course, an understanding of the principles of biology are developed and topics are illustrated by reference to relevant applications of biology, particularly those of a personal, social, environmental, economic and technological nature. A Level Biology gives students a good grounding for higher education both by developing practical skills and studying higher level Biological concepts in great breadth and depth.

A2 BIOLOGY IN YEAR 13
Unit Title  Assessment (50% carried from the AS course)
Lifestyle, Transport, Genes & Health    1 hour 30 minute exam worth 40%
Development, Plants & the Environment    1 hour 30 minute exam worth 40%
Practical Biology & Research Skills    Internally assessed individual practical investigation worth 20%
   
What can it lead to?
Studying Biology can lead to employment in a range of professions, including forensic science, bio-medical science, environmental science and pharmacy. It is essential for anyone wishing to study medicine.
