YEAR 7 ART LEARNING OVERVIEW 2011-2012

Formal Elements

Introduction to the art dept.
Students will learn drawing techniques using a variety of materials. They will learn basic colour theory, focusing on the formal elements – line, tone, colour, pattern, texture, shape, form and space.
As well as observational drawing focusing on scale, proportion and composition.
Students will work individually, and as their skills and confidence grow develop their ideas collaboratively.

Research and Investigation 

 

Students will continue to explore with drawing techniques, as we as learn how to research and present their work.

They will be taught to research and layout their work using the internet, books, magazines, the library and PowerPoint.

Students will study Matisse (Fauvism) and Warhol (Pop Art). 

The end of term will be linked to Black History month and related artists such as Yinka Shonibare and Chris Ofili.

 

SPRING TERM 1
4th January-10th February

SPRING TERM 2
20th February-30th March

Advanced Drawing

Students will further develop their art skills by experimenting with scale, rendering, perspective and proportion, through a variety of materials such collage, inks, pens, pencils, paint, charcoal and chalk.

Students will explore all the new techniques to create visual responses to Matisse and Warhol.

There will be special focus on planning, design, composition and working as a team. 

SUMMER TERM 1
17th April-1st June

SUMMER TERM 2
11th June-19th July

Abstract Art
 
Students will research abstract art and related artists. Sketchbook work will be explored by experimenting with cutting skills and page layout.
They will study the use of colour and shape within abstract art and how it conveys meaning. 

Van Gogh paintings

Students will research the medium of ceramics and the properties of clay.

They will learn the skills for creating a vessel, such as pinch pots, coiling, slabbing and glazing.
