YEAR 7 DESIGN TECHNOLOGY LEARNING OVERVIEW 2011-2012

TEXTILES TECHNOLOGY-Introduction to Textiles- Denim Wallet
 
Students begin the course with looking at the behaviour of structural elements in a variety of materials.

Students will learnhow to use materials, technology and aesthetic to design and make products of worth.

 

Students explore simple textiles construction techniques, Pupils use the sewing machines and investigate embroidery stitches and the use of computer aided design and manufacturing processes within textiles.

Students use the sewing machines to create a denim wallet using the skills they have learnt and develop embellishment techniques to enhance their work. 

 

SPRING TERM 1
4th January-10th February

SPRING TERM 2
20th February-30th March

RESISTANT MATERIALS-  Carnival Mobile

 

Students begin the course by examining the health and safety considerations within Technology specifically within the workshop. They work with hand tools and explore different methods of joining materials together

Students will use ACCESSFM to understand the principles of product analysis 

 

 

Students will generate, model and communicate ideas using appropriate strategies. 

Students will study current designer to influence their own work into ergonomic design. Students will apply this knowledge into the design of a product using a sample of woods and plastics. 

 

SUMMER TERM 1

SUMMER TERM 2
11th June-19th July

FOOD TECHNOLOGY- Baking 
 
Students begin the course by examining health, safety and hygiene considerations within the Technology kitchen. Students are introduced to basic baking skills, using the oven and grill, basic food preparation techniques and use of equipment. They explore different food groups, and create simple recipes to practice knowledge of skills, equipment and food hygiene.

Students will look at the importance of packaging with in the food industry and will learn key design considerations essential for successful packaging.
