YEAR 9 DRAMA LEARNING OVERVIEW 2010-2011

AUTUMN TERM 1

AUTUMN TERM 2

Music in drama
Students experiment with the elements of drama
Learning how to manipulate the different signs through which drama communicates meaning
And learn how to use specific criteria to evaluate their own and others’ performances

Day the Waters Came
Responding to, researching and experimenting with the content and context of stimulus material
learning how to work supportively and creatively with others, discovering how to structure plays and performances
Students experiment with mediums and elements of drama as well as use specific criteria to evaluate, adapt and improve work

SPRING TERM 1
5th January-18th February

SPRING TERM 2
28th February-8th April

Blood Brothers
Students work supportively with others in performance.
Develop their ability to interpret narrative and portray character in performance and use specific criteria to evaluate their own and others’ performances.
Students increase their understanding of the content and themes explored in a drama   

Blood Brothers (ctd) and Soap Operas
Students develop their use of the language of drama when analysing plot and performance continuing to understand the content explored in a soap opera and the relationship between it and form
Encouraged to make connections between different styles, and genres, including recorded drama, and the cultural/historical context, structure and tension (cliff hangers) and use of stock characters and stereotypes
SUMMER TERM 1
25th April-27th May

SUMMER TERM 2
6th June-22nd July

The Tempest
Students  make dramatic action through experimentation with drama elements (sound, light, movement)
As well as interpreting narrative and portraying characters, students will realise a range of genres, styles and forms and make connections between different styles, traditions and genres, including recorded and live drama and understand the cultural/historical context

Let Him Have It
Students  respond to, research and experiment with the content and context of stimulus material about the case of Derek Bentley and capital punishment
Working creatively with others to explore characters and themes, students will realise a range of genres, styles and forms for different purposes leading to a greater understanding of the content in a drama and the connections between it and the form used
