You said, we did.

You Said |
We Did |
1 |
You said that the Paddington Academy uniform was too expensive and that certain items were hard to get hold of. | We changed the Paddington academy uniform to make items easier to purchase, got rid of the tartan skirt/trousers for girls and identified the best places to purchase uniform items. |
2 |
You said that we needed to increase security at the Academy. | We introduced daily random searches with a metal detector to act as a deterrent to students to bring in dangerous items. |
3 |
You said that parents/carers needed more access to subject teachers to discuss your children’s progress. | We have now introduced a parents evening and parents morning at the end of each term to give parents/carers more flexibility in choosing when to see teachers. Parents evenings will take place on the last Thursday of each term between 4 and 6 pm and parents mornings on the last Friday of each term between 9 am and 12 pm. |
4 |
You said at the last Parents Forum that the timing of long reports was sometimes too late in the year. | We are now looking at introducing a series of Parent Information Evenings at important times in the academic year for each year group. The first Parent Information Evening will be for parents/carers of students in year 11 in January 2010. |
5 |
You said at the last Parents Forum that criteria for ‘attitude’ on the termly reports were unclear. | We are writing clear criteria for teachers to ensure consistency across the academy in ‘attitude’ grades. |
6 |
You said that it would be helpful to have dates on termly reports so that parents/carers could see when grades had been given. | We will put assessment date on to next set of reports. |
7 |
You said that parents/carers would like to be more involved in the life of the academy. | Two separate termly meetings now take place: A parents forum where parents have the opportunity to discuss whole school issues with staff and the new ‘Paddington Parents Association’ which will meet as a separate, independent parent body to discuss academy issues and be a forum where parents/carers can share their experiences as parents/carers of students at the academy. |
8 |
You said that you were concerned about distribution of lockers and that some students had been issued lockers belonging to older students. | Heads of Years are working with their year teams to ensure that all students have a locker that is not being used by anyone else. |
9 |
You said that you wanted easier access to teachers and key staff as it was sometimes difficult to get in contact with the academy via phone. | We issued a ‘blue book’ for all parents/carers that had email addresses for all key staff at the academy |
