Paddington Academy is working on a number of initiatives to further develop links with parents and carers of our students. Next academic year we have planned the following:

  • We will be developing a programme of community courses in partnership with Westminster and Kingsway College aimed at offering Literacy and Work Skills classes to parents/carers
  • Once these copurses are up and running, we hope to further develop the programme offering ICT and basic skills Maths courses to parents/carers
  • We will also be looking to recruit parents from established adult community courses for Level 1 and 2 courses in Working with Children and Employability OCN qualifications.
  • Work is being planned with the Depaul Trust and PAL (Parents as Learners) programme to deliver small group parenting classes.
  • Parents’ cookery classes will be held on Saturdays or during the holiday academy to give students and their parents opportunities to learn together
  • We plan to develop a more ‘parenting’ focused family learning programme during Holiday Academy in partnership with the Family Learning Unit.
  • We will be arranging more Parent Focus Group meetings to give parents the opportunity to offer feedback and suggestions for further development.
  • Finally, in order to communicate more effectively with parents and carers we will be advertising our adult learning classes in Bengali and Arabic.
