The 2011 News Report is now available to see below
On Thursday 24th March twenty seven pupils from Paddington Academy joined up with around 800 schools across the UK making the news.

The pupils were taking part in BBC News School Report, a BBC project to engage 11-14-year-olds in the news.

Ex-teacher and BBC News presenter, Huw Edwards, was lending his support to the project.

He said: “I'm involved because I want to give young people the chance to make the news themselves, and I want to share the principles of good journalism.”

Over the past few months the students in Year 9 have been working hard, training to be top journalists, carrying out interviews and producing reports.

Two students, Mustafa Gashi and Joan Al Assam went to the Royal Albert Hall to cover Radio 3’s Red Nose Show.  It was a star studded event and with the help of a celebrity kazoo band, Britain set a new record for the most kazoo’s playing a tune simultaneously.

A group of students from Paddington Academy will also went to BBC TV Centre on the day to give updates on SCHOOL REPORT LIVE, on a dedicated TV channel between 9am and 4pm.  They were representing London, giving hourly headlines.

Teacher and organiser, Arlene Slevin said ‘The students have worked very hard, putting together reports such as world book day, comic relief, and health issues. I was very proud that they were given the opportunity to work with professionals from the BBC,  and gain practice in interviewing celebrities. Working as broadcasters on School Report Live, will give them a unique insight into the world of journalism, and one that they will always remember.’

On Thursday the 24th March at 2pm the students broadcast their news, covering the stories of the day as well as their special report on how much money Paddington Academy raised for Comic Relief and the tree planting at the Ha’Penny Steps on Harrow Road.

Student, Mustafa Gashi said  ‘I think this is a great experience for media. I have learnt alot from doing the BBC School Report and when I’m ready for a job, this will help me. I love it!’

To coincide with the Census, this year over 24,000 pupils from more than 300 schools have taken part in the School Report survey, answering questions on everything from how they travel to school to what they think about the Royal Family.
